The Ugly Twin is a brand based in Toronto that was founded in 2016. The brand’s name is a play on how we tend to compare ourselves to others, and how we allow negative feelings / thoughts of ourselves define us. We had the idea of taking that concept and flipping it on its head, in attempt to establish an “I’m ugly, but so what” attitude. Proceeding to then use the word “ugly”, in attempt to strip it of its associated negativity and incorporating it into designs as a means of empowerment.
